Our vision is a future where every individual seeking a second chance has access to meaningful work, sustainable income, and a supportive path forward..

Unlock Your Future

South Carolina Vocational Construction (SCVC) exists to restore stability, purpose, and opportunity for individuals transitioning out of incarceration and those with substance use backgrounds by providing hands-on construction training, paid work experience, and supportive residential programming.

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip participants with practical life skills, industry knowledge, and real employment pathways so they can secure meaningful work, achieve self-sufficiency, and rebuild their lives with dignity—regardless of past mistakes or background

We believe access to skill-based education, structure, and opportunity is essential to breaking cycles of incarceration, addiction, and economic instability

SCVC supports justice-involved men and individuals with substance use histories through a structured residential model that combines accountability, skills-based education, shop training, paid on-the-job experience, employer partnerships, and a culture that supports recovery, responsibility, and personal growth.

Participants are not defined by their past, but by the skills, work ethic, and stability they build moving forward.

6 Week Training Class

This six-week training course offers a practical, hands-on pathway to stable employment and recovery by teaching carpentry and basic construction skills through the design and building of tiny homes. It is designed specifically for people reentering the community after incarceration and for those working to overcome substance use challenges. The program combines vocational training, life skills, and supportive services to promote long-term success.

What you’ll learn

  • Core carpentry skills: measuring, cutting, framing, sheathing, roofing, siding, and basic finish work.

  • Construction basics: tool safety and maintenance, reading simple plans, material selection, and jobsite workflows.

  • Tiny home-specific techniques: space-saving design, modular construction, insulating small structures, and basic utility integration (plumbing and electrical overview for safe coordination with licensed trades).

  • Soft skills and workplace readiness: punctuality, teamwork, communication, resume writing, job search strategies, and interview practice.

  • Recovery and reentry supports: relapse prevention strategies, peer support, accessing treatment and community resources, and legal/records navigation.

Graduates of the South Carolina Vocational Construction (SCVC) program gain more than just hands-on experience—they leave with practical skills, confidence, and a clear pathway toward long-term stability and employment.

Participants develop real-world carpentry and construction skills by working from start to finish on a fully built tiny home. This hands-on approach ensures they understand each phase of construction, making them job-ready for entry-level positions in the construction industry.

The program builds workplace discipline and reliability, including time management, teamwork, and accountability—skills that are essential for maintaining steady employment and advancing in a career.

Graduates gain industry-relevant knowledge and safety training, equipping them with a strong foundation in job site expectations, tool usage, and construction best practices.

SCVC also supports personal growth and life stability, helping individuals rebuild confidence, develop a sense of accomplishment, and transition successfully into the workforce after incarceration or substance recovery.

Additionally, participants leave with tangible experience and portfolio work, having contributed to the completion of a tiny home—something they can confidently speak to in interviews and future opportunities.

Ultimately, completing the program provides a pathway to employment and self-sufficiency, empowering individuals to build not only homes, but a sustainable future for themselves.
